The Summerland Community Centre is thrilled to welcome back Rick “Poppa Dawg” Halisheff, a powerhouse of the Western Canadian blues scene, on Friday, February 20, 2026 at 7:00 pm. Rick last graced our stage in October 2023 as part of the Dawg and Tank duo with Sherman “Tank” Doucette, and now returns with his full trio for an unforgettable night of music.

About Rick “Poppa Dawg” Halisheff

For over 25 years, Rick has been a mainstay in the blues community, earning recognition for his commanding vocals, fiery guitar work, and heartfelt songwriting. His performances are fueled by passion, not only for the music itself but for the stories behind the songs.

Rick has shared the stage with countless artists, released albums with his band Dogskin Suit, and produced two solo records. His accolades include two local Honour in the Arts awards, a semi-finalist spot at the 29th International Blues Challenge in Memphis (2013), and most recently, the 2023 Gonzo Award for the Okanagan’s Best Blues Musician.

The Trio

• Grant Jones on bass guitar – Originally from the Kootenays, Grant has played with artists such as B.C. Read, Henry Piovisan, and Sherman Doucette, performing extensively in Calgary and Winnipeg during the 1980s. Beyond music, he spent 26 years as a newspaper editor and now resides in Kelowna.

• John Modder on drums – After moving to the Okanagan in 2001 from Vancouver, John brought with him decades of experience playing in classic rock and country bands. He has performed with Sherman Doucette, Dogskin Suit, Cathy Anne Welles, Les Copeland, and Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne. Now semi-retired, John continues to groove with Poppa Dawg.

Together, Rick, Grant, and John share a musical friendship spanning over 30 years. Having played together many times in the past, they’ve recently rediscovered their chemistry and are eager to bring their sound to venues that celebrate live blues.
