South Okanagan Big Band Christmas Show

Hear ye, hear ye!  The South Okanagan Big Band, Summerland’s favourite Big Band, is coming back in time to celebrate Christmas with you!  Always putting on a warm fuzzy feeling and a friendly face, the band plays some old-time favourites along with newer ones.  Expect to hear some of your cherished Christmas tunes – some serious, some fun or even funny – that you can sing or dance to.

The band’s beginnings were in 2011 with nowhere near enough players.  Since those early days some players have come and gone, but over the years both the core group and newer players have been flourishing under the joint and able directorship of saxophonists Richard de Jonge and Catherine Scott-Taggart.

It is rare to be able to buy affordable tickets for and hear a big band, because if you had to pay the true value of musician’s time, the cost for a 17-piece big band would be prohibitive!  However, this group of engaging and experienced players plays for the love of it and does a wonderful job at helping the Community Centre raise funds.  The band’s Christmas Show will be only $15.  We are truly blessed!

The band’s music is listenable as a concert alone, or if you have dancing shoes, they’re great to dance to.

Last Christmas, the show was sold out, as was the concert in May – actually, more than sold out!  So, mark your calendars now and make sure to get your tickets early to come celebrate the festive season with us!

Tickets will be available mid-November onwards at Artisans of the Okanagan.  The show is $15, or only $10 (cash only please) for members who show their membership cards, and takes place on Friday, December 15, at 7PM.  It will be hosted in festive surroundings with cafe-style tables, and a cash bar for wine and beer.
