Rick “Poppa Dawg” Halisheff and Sherman “Tank” Doucette

October 28, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

$20

The Summerland Community Centre is thrilled to have Rick “Poppa Dawg” Halisheff and Sherman “Tank” Doucette play on Saturday, October 28, at 7 p.m.

Rick has been a mainstay on the Western Canadian blues scene for over 25 years, making a name for himself based on his strong vocal and guitar abilities as well as being a seasoned songwriter.

Never short on passion, his performances are always driven by the music and sharing the stories of the songs themselves. Whether it is an intimate acoustic venue or large festival stage, he is equally at home in both worlds. He has shared the stage with numerous artists and has released CDs with his band, ‘Dogskin Suit,’ plus two solo albums.

Over the years Rick has won two local ‘Honour in the Arts’ awards as well making it to the semi-finals of the 29th International Blues Challenge with his band in Memphis in 2013. Always writing and releasing new music, the work itself is what drives him to continue as a professional musician.

Sherman “Tank” Doucette, is a harmonica player, vocalist and songwriter based in Kelowna. He has shared the stage with blues legends such as John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, Sunnyland Slim, Pinetop Perkins, Jim Byrnes and Long John Baldry, has recorded several albums, and has toured extensively across Canada.

Sherman grew up surrounded by music. His dad played guitar or banjo, his grandfather played harmonica and fiddle, and the rest of his family sang and danced along. “My grampa played French jigs, where they dance with their feet … I’d sit on his lap and he’d keep time with his feet. And the rhythm went right through me.”

When Sherman picked up the harmonica, he worked hard to get that sought-after tone. But he didn’t want to play like everyone else, so he developed his unique style.

Sherman is a tank full of energy. Mixing blues classics and original songs with the passion and conviction few can deliver, he puts on an unforgettable show.

Together again, the two musicians have been playing to sold out audiences in the Valley. Tickets for this show are $20 and can be purchased in early October at Artisans of the Okanagan, via e-transfer for Will Call (go to <summerlandcommunitycentre.ca> for instructions), and at the door.
